DESCRIPTION

Grand View Point is the best of three similar overview hikes on the Grand View Mesa; the other two are Murphy Point and the White Rim Overlook. If you only do one of these hikes, make it the Grand View Point Trail—it delivers the most impressive and panoramic view of the Canyonlands basin in the entire park.

The trail sticks close to the canyon rim throughout, never departing more than about 20 feet from sheer cliff at any point. Along the way you’ll traverse the Kayenta Formation, resting solidly on a base of Wingate Sandstone.

As you work out the details of your visit to the Island in the Sky, Grand View, located at the farthest extension of the paved park road, can be conveniently and efficiently hiked at any point in the day—first thing in the morning, at midday, or at sunset—and while your experience will likely be different as the light catches the canyon at different angles, it will always be rewarding.
